SEARCHING, which can be found as a track on the album TANGERINE, was also released as a single because it is the only song in the album that represents an entirely unique concept and experience. I was driving a U-Haul with my car hitched to the back, on my way to my new home in Austin, Texas. It was 4 in the morning, and I was driving through pouring rain. Exhausted and fearing an accident, I questioned my sanity. What was I doing with my life? Was I crazy to pack all my stuff and move to a new city on a whim—all by myself and no idea what would happen next? The words from SEARCHING came to me, and I realized this song was speaking to me in a profound way and perfectly
summarizing my fate as I drove down the road to an unknown fate.
I love this song because it allows for an acceptance of past mistakes while leaving the door open for closure and the chance for a new beginning. I recite the lyrics to this song daily to remind me of where I have been and where I am going.
